National Author WOWs Durham by Mike Tucker Jr.
by Mike Tucker Jr.
“Wow” is a way of life for Stanice Anderson. It’s also an acronym for “Walking On Water,” which is a statement she lives by.
Anderson, a former Durham, NC resident, brought her latest book, Walking On Water When The Ground Ain’t Enuf, and an energetic performance to The Blue Coffee Cafe, 202 N. Corcoran Street on Saturday, April 2nd.
A “Self-Made Miracle,” as described in the recent March issue of Black Enterprise, Anderson is a recovering heroin addict who has become a nationally recognized inspirational speaker, performer and author.
She opened the Durham audience’s ears and hearts by singing “Lord, I Know I Been Changed.” Now with their attention, she transitioned to riveting true life stories of her journey from a desperate and hopeless heroin addict to a life redeemed.
“I’m blessed to be living proof that longevity in recovery is possible and not only will God resurrect a life, as I died three times after a heroin overdose; He will resurrect your dreams,” she explained.

The crowd’s reaction moved between tears, laughter and shouts of joy. In addition to songs and testimony was a blend of poetry and spoken word Anderson has coined Spokentry.
“I’ve come to believe that we are triumphant not in spite of it all, but because of it all, according to Anderson. “What He does for one; He will do for another.”
The inspirational afternoon ended as it began with an up close and personal half-hour mix and mingle with Anderson. Best selling author Sharon Ewell Foster was in attendance, along with others who left the event encouraged and spiritually energized.
Anderson plans to return in to Durham in June for another Performance/Booksigning. Find out more about her, her books and tour dates at www.TryWalkingOnWater.com.
