What I’ve found exciting about faith

That’s what’s so exciting about faith – you never know how and when God is going to move in your life. He just shows up in the tiniest of details.

Press Release: Memoir Author gets 2-page spread in BLACK ENTERPRISE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Writer’s Walk On Water Lands In National Magazine

Memoir Author Gives Hope to Readers and a Feature Story to Black Enterprise

Washington, DC – Less than one month after releasing her first self-published book, Walking On Water When the Ground Ain’t Enuf, Stanice Anderson was interviewed by Black Enterprise about her amazing life story and now she is a featured spread on newsstands in the March issue on pages 76-77.

“I wrote this book to help people dealing with or affected by any kind of addiction.  My intention was to write it in a way that is easily digested and received.  Black Enterprise has given me an international platform for my story and I am very grateful because addiction is an international problem,” said Anderson.

A former heroin addict with 25-years clean and sober, Anderson is now an inspirational speaker, performance artist, and author. Her second Christian-based memoir, Walking On Water, plunges head first into her pain and emerges restored in her recovery process. With stories like homeless-man-turned-superstar, Ted Williams, in the news, people know that anything is possible; but, with that comes a process to be better.  Anderson gives her proven case study in this book.

Walking On Water is meant to read like an intimate conversation through a series of chapters that range from “Faith Laughs” to “Faith Lets Go.” Each chapter is applicable to readers’ everyday lives like devotionals but twists that genre through an entertaining mix of dialogue, descriptive life stories, spokentry, prayers and scriptures. The book also includes a bonus Reflection/Discussion Guide for personal discovery and book clubs.

Anderson chose to self-publish her second memoir after her first, I Say A Prayer For Me, was published through Warner Books (now Hachette). She publishes Walking On Water through her company Shout Glory, LLC and co-publishes with her son, Mike Tucker, Jr.

Anderson had full creative control of the entire project including the powerful and vibrant front cover, which includes a rendering of the author done by singer Raheem DeVaughn’s visual artist, Demont Peekaso Pinder.

Anderson’s book is available wherever major books are sold and now available as an eBook on all eReader platforms.

Your book is amazing!!

isapfm cover CHRISTINA WRITES: I Say A Prayer For Me, changed my life!!! I am married to a minister who is one that ministers in the streets. I myself have never been addicted to alcohol nor street drugs, unlike my husband who not only was addicted but was a drug dealer.

Your book I CRIED through, I felt like I knew you!! Not only that you helped me understand women who are in addictions and abuse. THANK YOU. I felt I was with you everystep of the way. I grew that year as a ministers wife and I believe a very compassionate and understanding person when it comes to those who are in situations that are devestating no matter how they got into them.

My heart ached for you past when i read it. THANK YOU for your honesty. I feel like I know you. So many times I have ministered from your book.

I am about to move to _____ and plan on using your book. I want to start a book club with women who are in the same sitations. But the books we read are based around the struggles.

I couldn’t put it down, the prayers became a part of my life as well.

One of my favorite paragraphs ~ written in my bible:

“Trust God and let Him show you your uniqueness in Him. There is something that only you were born to bring to the world. Let go of your preconceived notions of what that may be and allow God to bring to fruition His glorious plan for your life that is far greater that anything that you could, think, ask, or imagine. fall back into the arms of God. Trust and don’t be afraid.”

Thank you again. I love you dearly, you touched my heart so much. Love, Christine

STANICE RESPONDS: Hello there, Christine. Thank you so much for taking the time to share your thoughts and experiences with my memoir, I Say A Prayer For Me.  It means so much.  God  promised me long before i finished the manuscript that He would meet each reader within the words, your testimony is yet another witness that He kept and continues to keep His Word.  It would mean so much if you posted some comments on its page on amazon.com.  The readers reviews make such a difference.  Plus, the date you’re leaving it shows that it’s a gift that keeps on giving.  Ageless truths as God revealed to us.

I am so happy for you and the life you’ve found in Him.  Also please say a prayer for me. I’m praying that God makes a way for me to republish the book.  It went out of print; but because of Don Piper’s, the author of 90 Days in Heaven, counsel (we were speakers at the same event a few years ago), I wrote to WWP/Warner Books and got the rights reverted back to me.  So I can republish through my own company, Shout Glory LLC.)  While I was so sad it had gone out of print, Mr. Piper assured me that God was blessing me even in that.  ”Now, you can re-publish and they won’t have control.”

So, that is what I’m believing God for.  the means to republish.

WOW coverIn the meantime, my son (little mike – now big mike) & I  just co-published my 2nd memoir, Walking On Water When The Ground Ain’t Enuf.  He was also managing editor on the project, publicist and my manager.

On another note, God also restored my relationship with my mom. In spite of her difficulty accepting that I wrote I Say A Prayer For Me.  She was so hurt and bitter about me “telling your business,” that a wedge that only God could have closed, kept us apart–emotionally for years.  She said, “I’ll never read anything you ever write again.”

But with prayer, forgiveness and time, God has given us a relationship that I always yearned for.  I promised her that there was nothing in my new book that could possibly hurt her.  She trusted me, even to the point where she is walking on water with my son and I.  Mom actually invested money in this new book.

We sent her a copy.  For real, I was scared to take it to her; not absolutely sure of her response, cause I still write from my personal experiences–that’s what I do.  But within a week, she called late one night and since I wasn’t home she left a voice mail.  Imagine as I listened.  ”This is your mom.” Hesitation, then she gleefully announced, “This book is absolutely wonderful.  I love it and I love you.  You really are a writer and I come to know you better with each book you write. You and Mike did a great job! You’ve really got it together.  It’s beautiful. I am so proud of both of you.”  A 4real walking on water (WOW) moment for both of us.

Walking On Water When The Ground Ain’t Enuf is available wherever books and eBooks are sold; but if you want a personalized signed copy, order from my website at www.TryWalkingOnWater.com.  Include the name(s) of who you want book(s) signed to and I will mail to you right away.

Again, thank you!  I pray that God’s extreme favor saturates your life and the lives of those you touch.  Amen. So be it!

PS, I am hoping to come to Tallahassee in the Spring, not sure how far that is from where you will be living. But perhaps, while I’m there we can work it out where I can come your way and share my testimony and perform some of my monologues and spokentry with a group, church or other organization in your area. Let’s see what God will do.

Love and blessings galore, Stanice

Is it okay if I share your testimony about the book, anonymously — changing your name to “Christine” and NOT linking to your page so no one knows that is you?

CHRISTINA RESPONDS: Thanks for writing back so soon. I will keep both books in prayer, but ur 1st one YES needs to be reprinted!!!!
As for my testimony of the book u may use it, no need to change my name or link. We are always to give account for the joy we have and ur book played a role in that. The powerful testimony that it blesses everyone, even those who have never been addicted it taught me compassion and no I may not personally feel what that life was like, because of the richness and vividness in ur writing I feel like I walked along side u. I read it about every 6 months to remind that this is what I am ministering to, there is hope of deliverance for people bound and hurting.

It was ironic, ur story makes me very protective to others. I went to the jail today to take money to a young boy 18 yrs old. The mail man brought a bunch of packages: I had said, to the clerk “look at all that love being sent their way.” This cop behind me said,” yeah, too bad the people behind those bars don’t love them enough to stay out of here. “. I just about lost it, I didn’t know whether to cry or holler :)

But I did say some choice godly words with a little spice added ;)

“Don’t judge nobody, until u walk in their shoes, these people need compassion, love and constructive help, not criticism!! A lot of them are in here due to hurts they have, being a victim! Remember it is because of God u aren’t behind those bars!! You just as tempted to sin like everyone else, some are just weaker then others.” Of course, he left without words to say ;) lol

Use any of my words, Papa is good. I will check out new book and add a comment to amazon;) love u stanice, ur my home-girl for real – connected in the streets by the blood of Jesus, the Holy Spirit and the word of our testimony.

blessings, Christina

Q&A: Self-Made Miracle by Stanice? (Black Enterprise Mag)

Black Enterprise article (pgs 76 & 76

Black Enterprise, March 2011 issue; Trials & Triumphs: Self-Made Miracle by Tamara Holmes (pgs 4, 76 & 77)

Black Enterprise Magazine article, Self-Made Miracle, by Tamara Holmes

Bernice Mayfield AWESOME…though I can’t imagine “self-made” being Stanice’s description. Reporter might have missed some of the point, but I pray that the readers get the full message! Praise the Lord!.

STANICE SHARES: Nor could I imagine that @bernice. Now, I Self-made the mess; but God created a miracle from the mess.  I self-made an heroin overdose that resulting in dying three times in the ambulance on the way to the hospital; but God had the last word–LIVE.  How could I not follow His leading, guidance and continue to do so, as empowered by the Holy Spirit–daily?

Gratitude and thanksgiving compelled me to ask  God for a vision for this life that He spared; so many times.  He answered the prayers I said for me and gave me the vision, resources for the vision; including people generously woven into the fabric of my life who supported, encouraged, and  loved me until I learned how to love and forgive myself.  I prayed for faith for the journey and God gave it to me–free for the asking.  It all went into the mix and I slowly came to believe and say with conviction, “You can do this! You are triumphant, not so much in spite of your past, but because of your past.”  Then there’s the new DNA coding that came with accepting Jesus Christ as my personal Lord and Savior.”

I like the way my son, Mike Tucker, who writes my press releases and co-published, my new book, Walking On Water When The Ground Ain’t Enuf, put it, “While,

Co-publisher & Managing Editor, Mike Tucker and Mom, Stanice Anderson

Co-publisher & Managing Editor, Mike Tucker and Mom, Stanice Anderson

you made a passionate choice to follow your resurrected dreams, God gave you the where-with-all.”  That’s a word phrase you don’t hear often and it bellows from the depth of my soul and into life as I now know it–full to the brim with possibilities and purpose.

What I do is hold on to God’s promises, keep it moving no matter what and refuse to give up 5 minutes before the miracles happen; knowing Jeremiah 29:11-14, “God says, ‘I alone know the plans I have for your life, plans for prosperity and not disaster; plans to give you a future and a hope,” is a personal, intimate Word from God to me and anyone else who dares to take God at His Word.

I thank God for the international platform that He orchestrated by getting me in Black Enterprise because addiction is an international problem and hope an international solution beginning.  I understand that it is a magazine with a focus on business enterprise in the world, especially as it relates to African-Americans.  So the jargon is that of the business world; i.e, self-made millionaire.  I applaud the publication for having a new section, LIFE, which features people like me who have had trials and triumphed through them. It’s an opportunity to share our stories to motivate and inspire others to grasp and believe,  that they are not alone in their situations, and that “If he or she can get through THAT then I know I can get though THIS.”  It’s about hope, which the character Red, in one of my favorite movies, The Shawshank Redemptions, says, “Hope is a good thing.  Perhaps, the best of things; and so I hope.”

BE March issue TOCI also thank God for the writer of the article, freelancer, Tamara Holmes, who passionately pitched my story to Black Enterprise, and won the assignment.  And the photographer, Kevin Allen, who captured some amazing shots including the feature photo that I know my Dad, Stan Anderson, Sr., in Heaven, must love.  His namesake standing at the gateway to his beloved Anacostia (Martin Luther King, Jr., Avenue and Good Hope Road, SE).  There is also a photo donning the Table of Contents on page 4 of BE, of me talking to a group at the new Anacostia Library,  where I first fell in love with the written word and the places the books imported me through my imagination.  The whole Black Enterprise experience made me feel like I’ve come full circle.  Like my Dad’s Anacostia is mine too, finally–I’ve come home.

Thank you, Jesus, for sparing my life for such a time as this!  Amen.  So it is!

Q&A: Amazing Hope

Hope, Objects in the mirror are closer than they appear

HOPE: Objects in the mirror are closer than they appear

3/4/11  Anonymous asked: My best friend happens to be a drug addict, he’s 17 years old, been in rehab twice, and arrested for drug charges a few times. he doesn’t seem the harm in doing some pills a few times a week. i know that addiction is a disease and it takes time to recover but how do i attempt to explain to him that this isn’t healthy and that he needs to stop doing everything to get his life back.

STANICE SHARES: As in my case, once I got clean and sober, I had to let some of the old friends go.  One in particular, who had been my best friend.  We did everything together, but she kept using.  I invited her to meetings, sent her 12-step pamphlets, invited her to my clean time celebrations. She never came.  So far she has not stopped using.  I planted the seeds.  That was all I could do.  It’s up to her to receive and use the information to her benefit.  She chooses not to.  It’s been 25 years and STILL, I hear from her sister that she continues to use.  I continue to pray for her believing that as long as there is breath; there is hope.  But as for me, I move forever forward seizing this opportunity that God has given me to the utmost.  I’m also reminded of how I was someone else’s best friend.  I was using at that point. one day she used her key to come into my apartment and I pulled some numchucks on her — at the ready! she looked at me with such sadness and simply said, “It’s so hard being your friend.”  Though i took no thought of it that day and perhaps for years; but it never left my mind. That look.  Those words.  And when I was sick and tired of the way I was living, her words came back to me so fresh and clear that it gave me the nudge I needed to seek help for myself.  Today, we are both clean and free.  Me first.  Then a few years later her.  We talked about that incident about a month ago during a photo shoot for an article that is featured in March’s issue of Black Enterprise.  Look how far God has brought us.  Never in my wildest imaginings would I have thought that life and friendship could be this good!  But I had to let go–in God’s time–not my friends. Not my parent’s but having gone through all that I did, I began to see the grace of God in my life and cried out for help.  Amazing hope, how sweet the sound.

A Message of Hope for the Teens at PIW

chains brokenAwesome God-granted day yesterday.  I shared my story as Inspirational Speaker for about 35 teens from 13-17 yrs. old currently inpatients at Psychiatric Institute.  Speaking for me is a two-way street and I believe I get more out of it than they did.  But I do hope today we were equally blessed.  Their beautiful young faces etched in pain that, in a perfect world, no kid would ever have to bear.  As I began doing my thing, with call and response poem, Tell Me A Story, we connected.  I spoke, did some spoken word, through in a song or two; I watched as glints of hope and possibilities danced amid their smilies and sang in their laughter.  I felt like i was treading on holy ground.

You see, I remember.  Though many ions ago, my inner turmoil began at about 8 when I remember writing on my bedroom wall (in pencil, of course) “Nobody likes me; everybody hates me.”  That was my first secret–how I felt on the inside.  Then raped at 14 with verbal and physical abuse by started at 15. But for the world, I began building a shining star, bright, congenial, and well-adjusted facade that I carried for many years; until my armor corroded from the inside out and burst into addiction along with the painful lifestyle that always accompanies it.

I remember.  If only I had the professional help made available to these teens when I was a teen, what wonderful things might have been.  But still, by God’s grace I made it through and out of the bondage of active addiction.  The baggage of a young lifetime, finally addressed through the help of many people and the festered inner wounds offered to God who healed me from the outside in.

Opportunities like today; to speak words of hope, healing, and encouragement to those precious teens is truly a gift born from my own pain and subsequent FREEDOM.  Hopefully, I pray that these teens, too will rise and be truly FREE!

I went from the teens suite to the 20 adults in detoxification unit.  Again, I shared my story, as if for the first time; allowing God to take me to exactly where He knew they needed to be met–heart-to-heart; spirit-to-spirit–we connected–hope abounded.

Thank you, Lord, I opened my mouth and heart –you filled them both up and multiplied it more times than I will know on this side of Heaven.  Amen.  So it is!

It’s Reaping Season

Ecclesiastes 11:6  Sow your seed in the morning, and at evening let your hands not be idle, for you do not know which will succeed, whether this or that, or whether both will do equally well.

This word has been hidden in my heart for a long time.  Through whatever I’ve gone through, in whatever circumstances, in times of pain, in times of lack, in times of uncertainty; one thing i have been certain about is that God is with me and what He says He will do, He will do.

But I have found that it is in the valley of Achor (trouble) where the door of opportunity and hope opens to you. (Read this story in Hosea 2:14-15)

My faith in God sustains me.  If I let it, His light chases away all darkness.  On His word, I am determined to stand-unmoved, unshaken by bad news, disappointments, sure things that escape through my fingers like sand in an hourglass.  Through it all, I have sowed the seeds, whether here or there, as I felt led even compelled to sow.  Some people laugh, most encourage.  Some people doubt, most believe.  Some people say give up, it’s not gonna happen; most lift me up in prayer and tell me, “Press on, my sister.”  Sometimes, it’s me and a past which tries to taunt me still with infernal Whispers of Doubt, “What makes you think anything you do makes a difference.  And succeed? You’ve got to be kidding.  You’re as far down the line as you gonna ever be.”

My response?  My words are puny and carry no weight unless breathed on by The Holy Spirit, so Whispers of Doubt hear this, “God said, Sow your seed in the morning and at evening I will not let my hands be idle, for I don’t know which will succeed, whether this or that, or whether both will do equally well.  And no where in that is the word ‘failure.”  Not an option!”

Actually, not my business, my instructions are to sow my seeds.  The seeds in my hand given to me by a Gracious, Forgiving, and Generous God.  The Word.  I hold onto the word, like a thirsty woman in the desert holds on to her water-filled canteen.  Why?  Because the Whispers of God are more certain, more true, more real than anything I’ve ever listened to in my entire life.  Don’t you hear it, too.  Listen.  It’s for you too, should you opt to receive it.  2 Chronicles 15:7, “But as for you, be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded.”

Together, my fellow Water-Walkers, we WILL get through, break THROUGH as we choose to believe in miracles and The Miracle Maker.  Expect miracles.  Expect God to act on your behalf.  Believe that God has wonderful, marvelous, and tremendous plans for your life.  Believe.  Trust.  Hold on.  Don’t give up 5 minutes before the miracle happens.  With God all things are possible.  Only believe!

Those of us who have stood on His Word through it all?  I got this feeling shut up in my bones that it is Galatians 6:9 season.  ”And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”

We have not fainted.  We may have got tired and stopped by the side of the road.  We may have had to enter in to a slower stride than when we started the race; but we’ve kept moving forward forward.  I believe God is opening the windows of Heaven and pouring out such blessings–including the most fervant desires of your hearts, things that you’ve been waiting on for what seems to be forever! but you kept sowing your seeds; you’ve kept the faith and helped others along your way.  I believe with all my heart that you’re, no, WE’RE in store for a massive downpour of blessings that will splash over everyone around you.

It's Reaping Season! Somebody shout, GLORY!

I’m excited for you and yours.  I’m excited for me and mine.  People that have poured into us.  Believed in us; held us up, prayed for us, encouraged us are about to see a bountiful harvest far beyond what we could have asked, thought or imagined.  Get excited.  It’s REAPING SEASON.

Next newsletter, I’ll include your testimonies and post them on my website athttp://www.TryWalkingOnWater.com. We’ll set up a page to encourage everyone that comes through.  After, we overcome by the blood of the lamb and the word of our testimony.  Send your testimonies to stanice@TryWalkingOnWater.com

Want to be of service and get involved ?  Group’s Business meeting last Saturday of every month @ 3:00 pm.  Same phone number and code (then regular meeting starts at 4 pm)

Notes that NA phone groups want everyone to know:

  • While most people have free long distance included in their telephone plans, this is a long distance call that goes through a computer server system; thus not, mobile-to-mobil – but treated as mobile-to-land line.  So check your phone plan and if you have long distance included on your land line then, you should be covered.
  • Another option:  If you want to call on mobile, have someone who plans to call on their landline, call the number then patch you in, i.e., conference call.  The person initiating the call let’s you piggy-back and you can get your meeting in at no extra cost to that nice person.
